Addressing Maternal Mortality and ACES in Reproductive Health
ACES Aware
Improving reproductive and maternal health outcomes can have a positive impact on families and can mitigate ACEs and toxic stress later in life.
Last year, ACEs Aware worked in partnership with CA Surgeon General, Dr. Diana Ramos to host a webinar series called ACEs and Trauma-Informed Care in Reproductive Health. All sessions in the series are available to view on demand and offer continuing education credit.

The Stronger Starts & Beyond program by the California Office of the Surgeon General supports perinatal mental health by offering resources and strategies for families, caregivers, and communities. It focuses on early intervention, accessible community support, and training for providers to address mental health challenges during pregnancy and postpartum. Key highlights include:

Perinatal Mental Health Toolkit
This toolkit provides actionable information, algorithms, and clinical pearls so that obstetric providers and practices can successfully address perinatal mental health conditions.
ACOG recommends that all women be screened at least once during the perinatal period for depression and anxiety symptoms using standardized, validated tools. If women are screened in pregnancy, the recommendation is to also screen postpartum.
